Jacob A. Riis Lecture Notes/Other Documents

In these four following lecture notes, Riis argued for the social rights of children who lived in the city during the Progressive Era. According to Riis, the needs of urban children were long ignored by society as a whole. He stated that children needed their mothers and God-bearing homes most in order to grow into responsible, good-natured adults who would give back to society later on. This exhibit section also includes a page written by Riis in December 1900 as well as a page from The Making of an American, one of Riis' landmark books.
