Subject

The Bowery, New York, men's social life, The Young Men's Christian Association

Description

Keetels' illustration of The Bowery Branch of the Young Men's Christian Association gives a full view of the inner workings of the branch. The branch consisted of a New York City Mission, a chapel, a reading and sitting room, dormitories, a library where members could write letters, a dining room, and a Bureau of Employment. All of these features of the Bowery Branch were essential to the YMCA's mission of serving the community and assisting those in need, a mission that served as the foundation to the Progressive Movement's cause.
